Joyrider
2007-01-01
Star Sky began in 2007 as a small Flash game on the Chip N Dales MMORPG website: pick one of thirteen ships, each unique (escort NPCs, multishot guns, lasers, bombs), and fight an NPC or other players in asteroids-like PvP. In 2014 it was rebuilt as Joyrider for the Windows 8 App Store in MonoGame: the same rotate-and-thrust feel, now an arcade game of twelve waves in a fixed arena. In 2015 that grew into Star Sky: Liberty, a four-player couch co-op RPG that was never released: an open universe of 400 areas, stations, clans, items and capture missions, all on one screen with gamepads. Each game was the simplest version first, then expanded. In 2026 all three were ported into one browser game, Joyrider, as three modes: Versus is Star Sky 1, Arcade is Joyrider, and RPG is Liberty with its quest lines finished and an ending. Every mode plays solo, as couch co-op on up to four seats, or online. A later game in the same universe, Star Sky, was started in 2025 in Unity. Play it at lysle.net/joyrider.
